FSC Verification - Fostering sustainable forest management
Certification and verified impact are often regarded as key drivers for the development of carbon markets, in addition to serving as a cornerstone in achieving a sustainable future.
Nicaforest is proud to announce our project has once again been audited and certified under the guiding principles outlined by the Forest Stewardship Council.
Ensuring certified impact is a top priority for the Nicaforest project, and by conducting operations in accordance with the guiding principles set forth by the FSC, we set out to foster carbon removal in a way in which it achieves an impact beyond carbon mitigation.
Why are certification standards important and why should you take notice?
As the carbon market continues to expand, the need for ensuring accountability across nature-based carbon removal projects has become more prominent than ever before.
This in turn has placed increased emphasis on the role certification standards play in the wider scope of sustainability, as it’s these bodies that serve to certify planned projects, track their progress, and most importantly, ensure that they meet their outlined objectives.
The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organization established in 1993 with the mission to foster responsible management of the world's forests.
FSC outlines a series of 10 principles related to responsible forestry, covering issues ranging from ensuring project activities do not result in a negative impact on surrounding biodiversity, to fostering community relations and workers’ rights to improve the standing of adjacent communities.
Ensuring accountability in the wider segment of sustainability is key in order to meet the already-ambitious climate targets set forth by nations all over the world, doing so in a way that fosters co-benefits and abides by the wider considerations of sustainable development as a whole.
