Amelia farm

67,000 trees planted

The Amelia farm was the first plantation established during the Nicaforest High Impact Reforestation Program. The Shared Benefit Agreement with the Cruz brothers was signed in January 2011, and preparation of the land started early April the same year.

More than 67,000 teak trees, of which 50% were clones of the best genetic material, were planted during the planting season (June-October). More than 40 people were employed during the planting season.

We also tested the effects of growing beans between the rows of teak seedlings. More than 37 acres (15 hectares) were planted, and excellent results were achieved. The soil properties were enhanced through the added nitrogen from the bean plants.
